The Royal Auto Motor Club Contich and HCS teamed up once again for the Distinguished Gentleman's Drive, commencing from HCS. The purpose of the drive was to support men's health awareness.

Under a radiant sun, the parking lot brimmed with elegantly dressed attendees, infusing an air of sophistication into the event. Sam, representing Wilde Coffee, delighted everyone with his coffee and cake offerings. Benjamin, from P1 Fuels, enriched the overall experience by sharing insights about their sustainable fuel. This year, we introduced a photo wall where participants could capture memorable moments before embarking on the tour.

Protest against Antwerp’s LEZ for oldtimers

Last weekend, people who love old cars came from all over Antwerp and nearby areas for a road trip that ended at HCS.  HCS opened its doors to welcome the protestors.
The event was organized by “Save the Oldtimer” to say they don’t like Antwerp’s Low Emission Zone (LEZ). In Antwerp, where there are thousands of ships in the harbour, a big highway around the city, and yet you can’t drive your old car in the center unless you pay.

Protesting is one thing but coming up with a solution is something else. That’s why we asked P1 Fuels to come and talk about their sustainable fuel.  Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen.

What an incredible weekend we experienced at the 2

What an incredible weekend we experienced at the 2023 Goodwood Revival!

In the lead-up to the event, our team put in tremendous effort to prepare the Talbot Lago T26 for the Goodwood Revival. There was a moment of uncertainty when due to some technical problems encountered at Silverstone 10 days earlier it seemed like we might not make it, but the whole team pulled together, and we managed to complete all the preparations just in time. With everything set, we eagerly made our way to the iconic UK circuit.

During the qualifying round on Friday, our customer took it very easy and shook the car down while checking for any problems, nothing encountered and the car was ready for racing on Saturday.

As for the race itself, the Talbot got off to a bit of a rocky start, with the driver shutting down the engine on the start due to what he thought was an electrical short circuit under the dash, we then needed to start from the pit lane after a check and no problems found. No harm done and the driver picked up the back of the pack and started overtaking backmarkers at a steady pace. Happy smiles at the finish flag and a happy customer and well running car.

We are thrilled with our achievements from this weekend and are already looking forward to putting more miles on the car and more seat time for the customer to enable him to get the best out of the car.
Looking forward to possibly Spa Francorchamps in 10 days time with the HGPCA.

• A Remarkable Vintage Bentley
The Bentley RC42 is an exceptional vehicle, part of an elite series of vintage Bentleys from the mid-1930s. Crafted by Bentley in 1936, it holds a prestigious place as one of the six exclusive 4 ½-litre models produced by Bentley using original parts manufactured before the Bentley Cricklewood factory was taken over by Rolls Royce in 1931 following the bankruptcy of Bentley Motors.

• R.C. (Reconditioned Chassis)
The transition of ownership brought about a treasure trove of new old stock and reconditioned components. Two automotive veterans, Nobby Clarke, the former Bentley Racing Team Manager, and Hubert Pike, a former Bentley Director, conceived the idea of constructing the R.C. (Reconditioned Chassis) Series, consisting of ten masterpieces – six 4 ½-litre models and four 3-litre models. All cars were constructed by the Bentley Factory in their service department using original WO Bentley parts.

• Six 4 ½-litre
With the chassis numbers RC41 to RC46, the six 4 ½-litre vehicles were designed to meet highly sought-after specifications.

• Exterior
Among the collection of new old stock parts, RC42 boasts a 4.5 Litre 1929 chassis DS3570, Originally draped in an aluminum two-door, four-seater Tourer body crafted by Vanden Plas (identified as Nr. 3471 according to original Vanden Plas Coach builder records).  The car now has a very good Le Mans style body with green paint and racing green fabric which are in superb condition.

• Engine rebuild
In 2010, an extensive engine rebuild was undertaken by the skilled hands of Bentley Specialist, John Ambler Restorations. Subsequently, the Bentley has only traveled a mere 9,000 miles.

1959 BRM P25 2500 GP engine rebuild.

A weary racing engine entered the engine room, signaling the start of our task.
We embarked on our customary process of dismantling and meticulously cleansing the engine,
making sure to watch out for any potential issues.
In the case of the early BRM engines, the cylinder liners were secured by being screwed into the cylinder head.
With a bit of maneuvering and careful handling, the cylinder head was successfully detached, with the liners still affixed to it.
This is the standard assembly, disassembly operation for the P25 BRM engine. We have now made a tool and have removed the liners for further work. Unfortunately whoever fitted them last did not fit the copper sealing rings that should have been present, probably the reason the engine is now with HCS for our experience in all types of specialist engine work.
